Orthodontic Braces

Maple Leaf Top
Orthodontics refers to dentistry that works to correct crooked and poorly aligned teeth as well as repositioning the jaw. Misaligned or crooked teeth are much harder to clean and keep clean and are more at risk for developing tooth decay and periodontal disease. Furthermore, poorly aligned teeth can put extra stress on the chewing muscles which may induce headaches, shoulder, back, and neck pain, or TMJ diseases. Lastly, orthodontics may be used to correctly align teeth to help enhance the appearance of one's teeth.

Orthodontic treatment might become needed to solve some oral health issues such as an overbite, which is where the upper front teeth protrude past the lower teeth. An underbite is the opposite of an overbite, where the lower teeth protrude past the upper teeth. A crossbite happens when the upper and lower teeth do not properly come together and an open bite happens when spaces between the biting surfaces on the side or front of teeth, when the back molars bite together. Other issues that may require orthodontic treatment include spacing, crowding and a misplaced midline. Spacing involves gaps or spaces between the teeth that may have been a result of losing teeth or that your teeth are too small to fill up the mouth. Crowding of the teeth happens when their is not enough space on the dental ridge for all of your teeth. Finally, a misplaced midline is when the upper and lower arch teeth do not line up naturally in the front.

Orthodontic treatments can help a patient create and keep a healthier mouth, while enhancing the overall appearance and may increase the lifespan of the teeth.
